Omaha, Neb.—August 26, 2014—Gordmans, Inc., a Nebraska-based apparel and home décor retailer, celebrated the grand opening of its new 545,000-square-foot Indianapolis-area distribution center at 1801 Innovation Boulevard in Clayton. With construction, equipment and technology, the total capital investment in the facility is $37.5 million. Through this facility, Gordmans created 130 jobs for the area and expects to employ 250 by 2017.
Founded in 1915, Gordmans is a fast-expanding retailer with 97 stores in 20 states, including eight stores in Indiana. Gordmans offers styles and trends in name-brand apparel and home décor at up to 60 percent off department and specialty store prices. Including the associates at the new Indiana distribution center, the retailer employs approximately 5,300 across its footprint. Because of Gordmans’ growth, its first distribution center in Omaha, Nebraska, is beyond capacity, so the company chose to invest in Indiana to build a second facility.
“Our decision to make this important and significant investment in the greater Indianapolis area was supported by several factors: Indiana’s vibrant business climate, a highly skilled workforce, an expansive transportation infrastructure and outstanding educational institutions,” said T. Scott King, Gordmans’ chairman of the board. “With this new distribution center, we will reduce supply chain costs while improving merchandise allocation and delivery times to our stores. In addition, this new facility will be a key driver in Gordmans’ growth, adding distribution capacity that will enable us to double our store count.”
“Indiana is known as the Crossroads of America for a reason,” said Indiana Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann. “Logistics operations can easily connect to their customers through our interstates, ports, railroads and airports.”
During the grand opening celebration, Gordmans made a $2,500 contribution to the Monroe-Gregg School District as part of the retailer’s Partners in Education program. Gordmans is committed to giving back to communities where it has stores and operations. Since 2000, the retailer has contributed more than $1 million to school districts in locations where Gordmans has stores and operations. The associates at Gordmans’ new distribution center chose Monrovia Elementary as its partner school in which it will provide volunteer support.
