NORWOOD, MASS. March 8, 2001 elcom, the e-procurement and e-marketplace software and services subsidiary of Elcom International, is adding strategic sourcing capabilities to its eCommerce Network, under a deal with industry2industry announced Thursday.
eCommerce Network is a hosted commerce services system that lets companies establish and operate private and public e-marketplaces for trading with partners over the Internet. elcom will use industry2industry's Dynamic Commerce Solution to add online Requests for Quotes and reverse auction capabilities to the system's current functions, such as directory services, a search engine and XML-based interfaces for exchanging information between B2B e-commerce technology platforms.
We are continuing to enhance the technical infrastructure of elcom's eCommerce Network by adding best-of-breed solutions from other technology providers to address our customers' needs," said Robert Crowell, Elcom International's chairman and CEO.
Commenting on elcom's announcement, Tim Minahan, research director at the consulting firm Aberdeen Group, said, "Adding industry2industry's collaborative commerce capabilities will enable elcom's customers to strategically source critical areas of spend such as capital equipment, services and direct material; and leverage the aggregation of suppliers on the network, creating additional opportunities for cost savings and process efficiencies."
