Pittsburgh April 30, 2001 B2B pioneer FreeMarkets today announced that it has signed an agreement to provide online reverse-auction services for American Standard Companies, an international manufacturer of technologically advanced products in the air conditioning systems, bathroom and kitchen fixtures and fittings, and vehicle control systems markets.
American Standard will use FreeMarket's Global Marketplace site as a platform for sourcing a variety of goods and services for its global operations.
"At American Standard, we are committed to investing in new technologies that enable us to maintain and grow our competitive advantage in the air conditioning, plumbing and automotive product markets," said William Clemons, director for operations materials at American Standard. Clemons said his company is looking to make better, more efficient sourcing decisions by using FreeMarkets.
American Standard, based in Piscataway, N.J., supplies central air conditioning systems and services under the Trane and American Standard names, plumbing products, and electronic braking and control systems for heavy-duty trucks and buses. The company employs approximately 61,000 people and has manufacturing operations in 27 countries.
