Medicity partners with MediGroup to expand group purchasing

Salt Lake City, UT July 11, 2001 The bigger, the better is certainly a phrase that applies to group purchasing. And for the members of MediGroup, it is the mantra of the day.

Medicity, an Internet platform provider for physicians, announced today that it is partnering with MediGroup Physician Services, the nation's largest group purchasing organization (GPO) focused on independent physicians and surgery centers. This agreement will provide Medicity's 10,000 physician users with negotiated prices on office and surgery center products and services.

Under the terms of the agreement, MediGroup will waive their one-time sign-up fee and will allow customers to purchase through their current distributors. Medicity users will access MediGroup through Medicity's secure Internet physician platform, allowing access at any time from any Web browser.

Traditionally, physician practices and associations have been excluded from the benefits of group purchasing organizations because of high contract costs. Through our relationship with MediGroup, we provide our physicians with direct access to GPO pricing without the upfront costs, said Kipp Lassetter, CEO of Medicity. Our partnership with MediGroup reinforces our commitment to providing the most efficient, cost-effective tools to our physician users.

Our partnership with Medicity allows us to deliver negotiated prices to more physicians, expanding the reach and power of our group purchasing organization, said MediGroup president Andy Klearman. With more than 30 years of experience in the medical informatics and healthcare industries, we provide access to a wide variety of products and services from national and regional distributors across the country, enabling us to meet all of the medical supply needs of physician practices and surgery centers.
