Simmons Selects SynQuest

Mattress maker taps software to determine impact of alternate supply chain strategies

Atlanta April 22, 2002 Beautyrest manufacturer Simmons Co. is set to use supply chain planning software from SynQuest software to analyze enterprise-wide operations and determine the impact of alternative supply chain strategies on overall customer service and profit.

The SynQuest solution licensed by Simmons is designed to help companies maximize profit by modeling the relationship between their supply chain operations and income statement. For example, it can deliver a cost picture by modeling operations (transportation, manufacturing, warehousing) across the supply chain and capturing variable, fixed, inventory, start-up, shut down and other costs as they occur.

"We conducted an extensive search over several months for a solutions partner," said Mark Parrish, executive vice president and chief operations officer at Simmons. "Simmons Co. has no doubt SynQuest is the right choice to help us achieve a customer focused approach to managing costs and improving profitability."

"This software will aid in the determination of the optimum supply chain design and will drive quality and service to the highest possible level," said Allen Podratsky, senior vice president product development and supply chain management at manufacturer. "We will enhance our ability to manage fixed asset investments, plant locations, through put, and delivery lanes to our customers. Additionally, this software will aid in network-wide capacity planning prior to making service commitments to new customers.

Simmons produces Beautyrest and other mattress brands, operating 18 plants across the United States and Puerto Rico.
