Kfar Saba, Israel July 18, 2002 SmarTeam Corp., a provider of product lifecycle collaboration solutions, this week rolled out version 2.0 of SmartBOM, a solution for electronic bill of materials (BOM) management.
SmartBOM allows for the creation, modification and comparison of BOMs, as well as the exchange of BOMs within the enterprise and across the supply chain.
SmarTeam, which is a Dassault Systemes company, said the solution streamlines BOM processes and facilitates management and collaboration around product structure and configurations with features such as effectivity dates, dynamic hierarchical navigation and simplified change tracking.
SmartBOM 2.0 adds native BOM Viewing, Editing and Comparison to the SMARTEAM environment, as well as a BOM WhiteBoard tool that provides a "sandbox" environment, enabling users to manipulate the BOM without affecting the master product structure.
Rafi Gal, configuration control manager of SmarTeam customer Nova Measuring Instruments, a manufacturer of monitoring and measurement systems for the semiconductor industry, said the solution lets his company involve the enterprise and the supply chain early on in the product design process. "SmarTeam realizes that the BOM is more than just a list of parts it becomes a focal point in our decision-making process and, as such, needs to be a secure, reliable and up-to-date source of information," Gal said.
