Manugistics, Cognos Ally

Partners to add business intelligence capabilities to Manu's supply chain solutions

Tempe, AZ August 20, 2002 Supply chain software provider Manugistics Group is partnering with business intelligence specialist Cognos to integrate the reporting and analysis components of Cognos Series 7 into Manugistics' solutions.

Manugistics offers supply chain management, pricing and revenue optimization, supplier relationship management, and service and parts management solutions under the banner of "enterprise profit optimization." Cognos provides business intelligence (BI) and decision-support software.

Under the alliance, the companies will embed Cognos BI in Manugistics NetWORKS ONEview, enhancing Manugistics' ability to provide business intelligence to its clients and their extended trading networks, including customers, distributors, and suppliers. NetWORKS ONEview enables operational monitoring and performance measurement, providing a multi-dimensional view of business data, reusable metrics and measures, and analytical support.

The two companies said the Manugistics-Cognos solution is going to help provide real-time business and customer insight, spanning data warehouses and operational sources, to users within and beyond the enterprise. Manugistics clients will have Cognos' analytic capabilities integrated with Manugistics solutions for visibility into key metrics, with interactive access to historical and real-time information.

That kind of visibility can help companies reduce costs, enhance operational efficiency and improve service levels throughout their trading networks, Manugistics asserted. The two companies said they are also going to leverage strengths in key vertical markets globally.

"The extensive functionality offered by Manugistics and Cognos will enable the delivery of fully integrated planning, execution and business analytics that help enable proactive, intelligent, and ultimately profitable decisions across the value chain," said Lori Mitchell-Keller, senior vice president of market strategy for Manugistics.

Commenting on the Manugistics-Cognos partnership, Bob Moran, research vice president and managing director for decision support at technology consultancy Aberdeen Group, said, "The sound application of business intelligence, as represented in the alliance between Manugistics and Cognos, will enable more global organizations to increase the benefits of greater efficiency and expanded opportunity."
