Chicago September 9, 2002 Fieldglass Inc. said it has appointed Laurence Birch as chief financial officer of the human capital management (HCM) software technology and services company.
With more than 22 years of financial and business experience, Birch has held executive positions at leading consulting and technology organizations, like Technology Solutions Co. and Brigade Corp., where he directed efforts in financial operations and managed initiatives associated with mezzanine financing, IPO preparation, and mergers and acquisitions.
In his role at Fieldglass, Birch oversees all financial and administrative activities. Specifically, the company said he is responsible for developing financial strategies.
"Larry has demonstrated his financial leadership at a publicly traded company as well as at entrepreneurial organizations undergoing periods of significant growth. This breadth of experience will help us to take Fieldglass to the next level of development," said Jai Shekhawat, Fieldglass CEO and co-founder. "His addition strengthens our executive team and his demonstrated abilities make him the best choice to take charge of our financial and administrative functions."
Birch identifies several reasons for his decision to join the company: "Fieldglass has an outstanding management team, first-class venture backers and a compelling business model that has attracted Fortune 500 companies as customers. Their software fills a well-defined need in the marketplace and offers a clear value proposition for buyers and their suppliers." He said that all of these factors combined to create "an exciting opportunity" for him to contribute to Fieldglass' growth.
Birch is a CPA with a master's degree in business administration from the J.L. Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, in Evanston, Ill., and a bachelor's of science degree in finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
