Harvesting Standardized e-Sourcing

Agribusiness taps Emptoris software to reduce costs, shorten cycle times

Burlington, MA November 7, 2002 In a bid to standardize e-sourcing activities across all its product categories, Syngenta, an agribusiness, has selected collaborative strategic sourcing solution provider Emptoris's Sourcing Portfolio. Emptoris said its partner Cap Gemini Ernst & Young is set to implement the software.

Using version 4.0 of the Sourcing Portfolio, Emptoris claimed Syngenta will be able to reduce product costs and shorten sourcing cycle times when sourcing goods and services for its crop protection products.

According to the provider, there are new software modules in version 4.0, including contract management, project management and supplier assessment.

In addition, Emptoris said its Smart Data Framework is going to provide Syngenta with more control and accuracy for its decision making.

Catherine Lambert, purchasing manager, Global Purchasing Group, Syngenta, said, "This sourcing solution will help us to make better and faster decisions throughout the entire sourcing process, from supplier qualification through to contract management. This will result not only in reduced product costs, but also in shorter sourcing cycle times, enabling us to get products to market faster."
