Healthcare alliance selects enterprise content suite to structure item master for facilities

Walnut Creek, CA December 3, 2002 Premier Inc., a San Diego-based nationwide alliance of more than 1,500 not-for-profit hospitals and health systems, announced it has selected Softface Inc.'s Enterprise Content Suite in order to build its item master, which it said includes more than 500,000 healthcare items for its facilities.

Historically, transforming large amounts of unstructured data into usable data has been manual, expensive and undependable. Softface, however, said its core automatically generates content and attributes from plain-text descriptions.

In addition, Softface enables enterprise content automation by coupling its grammar interpreting technology with digitized domain expertise. The provider said the result is enterprise content that is cleansed, classified and normalized.

"Softface automatically provides attribute level details about commodities and services. The granular details Softface delivers are critical to sourcing items, negotiating purchasing contracts and ultimately securing savings in procurement across any industry," remarked Olivier Sermet, CEO at Softface.

Premier Inc. is an alliance in U.S. healthcare that is entirely owned by more than 200 of the nation's hospital and healthcare systems. Premier provides resources supporting health services delivery including group purchasing for more than $17 billion annually in supplies and equipment.
