Hana and Her Supply Chain

EMS deploying webplan solution in bid to move toward proactive operations; second recent Asian win for provider

Newport Beach, CA Ñ March 5, 2003 Ñ Hana Microelectronics Group is set to deploy a supply chain solution from webplan for its global, multi-site manufacturing operations in a bid to move from reactive to proactive operations.

The announcement of this latest win for webplan comes shortly after another Asian manufacturer, bicycle producer Giant, selected the provider's solutions to streamline its own supply chain.

Thailand-based Hana Group is one of Southeast Asia's leading independent electronic manufacturing service (EMS) providers, employing more than 6,300 employees at facilities in Thailand and China, as well as in Ohio. The company reported 2002 revenues of $187.4 million.

Hana is deploying various of webplan's eSupply-Chain solutions, including the provider's Manufacturing Insight solution. Manufacturing Insight is a role-based supply chain visibility and analysis solution intended to provide real-time alignment of supply and demand across the supply chain using collaborative, Web-based applications. webplan and its systems integration partner Atos Origin will jointly deliver the solution.

"The webplan solution promises to help transform us from a largely reactive operation to a highly proactive one," said Somchai Chantrachirathumrong, director of corporate MIS, Hana Microelectronics Group.

Chantrachirathumrong added that his company would look to the webplan solution's real-time "what is" and "what if" capabilities to help Hana plan more effectively, reduce lead times and react more quickly to changes than the company has been able to in the past. Hana is counting on the solution to reduce planning cycle times from days or week to minutes or hours.

In addition, with the webplan solution working with Hana's existing production systems, the manufacturer is looking to reduce inventory and accelerate customer response times. Hana is also hoping to improve customer service levels and to use webplan's capable-to-promise functionality to allocate resources and plan production more effectively, as well as to provide more accurate promise dates to its customers.

In addition to Manufacturing Insight, Hana also will be deploying webplan's Supplier Collaboration, Sales and Operations Planning and Supply Chain Monitoring solutions.

The Hana win is webplan's second recent Asian customer success. In early February, Taiwan's Giant Manufacturing Company, the largest bicycle producer in the world in terms of revenues, tapped webplan's eSupply-Chain solutions in a bid to improve overall manufacturing operations, starting with its Taiwan operation. This implementation is the beginning of a roll-out of webplan at Giant sites globally. webplan is working with The Industrial Technology Research Institute Taiwan to implement the solution for Giant, whose production facilities in Taiwan, China and the Netherlands are set to manufacture 5 million bicycles this year.
