Internet retailer taps solutions it hopes will maximize efficiencies and increase visibility
Downers Grove, IL — July 17, 2003 — NTE Inc., a provider of online transportation services, today announced that its NTE Trade product has been selected by Salt Lake City-based Overstock.com Inc. to automate its transportation tendering and execution process.
Overstock.com is an Internet retailer of name-brand surplus, closeout and off-price merchandise. Specializing in selling first-quality merchandise at deep discounts, Overstock.com explained that it has expansion plans and chose NTE to help manage the transportation execution functions to meet its increasing demand. Through the use of NTE's carrier tendering engine, NTE Trade, Overstock.com said it manages shipment execution and now has visibility to all transportation actives.
Overstock.com shipments are entered into NTE Trade, which automatically manages the carrier and mode selection and tendering and exception management process within Overstock.com's carrier community. "By providing a single repository for shipment data and transportation execution, we can better manage, control and report on our supply chain activities," said James Floyd, Overstock.com's Logistics manager. "Overstock.com has expanded its capacity in all areas of their business, including IT architecture, fulfillment and customer service."
NTE said its solutions are targeted at companies that wish to immediately improve their supply chain processes and are looking for a rapid deployment and a prompt return on their investment. NTE's CEO Jim Davidson said that Overstock.com, because of the nature of its business, already has an understanding of how the Internet could be used to implement a solution across many trading partners at a lower cost, thereby maximizing ROI. "Overstock.com will benefit from transportation cost savings through improved routing guide compliance, automation of the previously manual processes, compliance via reporting capabilities, and customer satisfaction through better shipment visibility and carrier relations," he predicted. "Overstock.com has access to all combinations of tendering capabilities, including Serial, Broadcast and Auction."
Overstock.com has been added to NTE's list of retail customers. "We continue to gain traction in the retail space," continued Davidson. "Our solutions are designed to create improved supply chain efficiency and transportation management, which is appealing to retail companies who typically have large, complicated supply chain networks."
