Department store chain selects logistics management solution for supply chain operations
Rockville, MD — July 23, 2003 — Manugistics Group Inc., a provider of supply and demand chain management solutions, today announced that Federated Department Stores Inc. will implement Manugistics' solutions to optimize inbound transportation and freight movements between its suppliers and distribution centers.
Federated oversees a national logistics network that has expanded with the company to keep its popular stores stocked. Federated operates 456 stores, including Bloomingdale's, Macy's, Rich's-Macy's/Lazarus/Goldsmith's, Burdines and The Bon Marche. The company also operates Macys.com, Bloomingdale's By Mail and a network of online bridal registries operated in conjunction with WeddingChannel.com.
To ensure that the right products reach the right stores on time, Federated said it developed comprehensive business processes to manage logistics operations. In order to drive further value within the area of transportation, Federated undertook a return on investment analysis to prove the value of utilizing supply chain solutions to automate and optimize these complex operations. Based on this comprehensive review process, Federated selected Manugistics' Global Logistics Management Solutions.
