VersaCold Logistics Services Hosts Grand Opening In The Port Of Tacoma

The energy efficient warehouse serves one of the largest retailers in the area, Grocery Outlet.

Tacoma, WA: VersaCold, the second largest public refrigerated warehouse company in the world, celebrated the opening of its newest distribution center with a BBQ lunch and ribbon cutting ceremony. Over 180 business partners, associates, customers, employees, port officials and local government turned out for the event. The mayor of Tacoma, Marilyn Strickland, and Don Johnson, president of the Port of Tacoma Commission, were on hand to give speeches offering their support and thanks to VersaCold as a new member of their business community.

VersaCold CEO Brent Sugden, congratulated general manager Tony Caetano and his team for a successful opening and thanked them for all their hard work. The warehouse unofficially opened in July, when they started receiving product. “We will continue doing what we do best and that is servicing our customers,” Sugden said enthusiastically. “We look forward to working with each and every one of you,” he said of all who attended.

Caetano commended his team and thanked the Modesto, CA, employees for making the move up the coast to Tacoma with him. He also gave a special thanks to Fisher & Sons, who did a superior job building the facility. “Without you, none of this would have been possible”, said Caetano. He added, “I am proud to work for VersaCold, a company that proves that if you work hard, you can move up and make your dreams a reality.”

With their proprietary POWER II warehouse management system, modern radio frequency and voice-pick technologies, VersaCold offers logistics solutions to seafood, agriculture and food manufacturing companies throughout the port and surrounding areas. The 196,600 square foot newly built, energy efficient refrigerated warehouse serves one of the largest retailers in the area, Grocery Outlet, who made the move with Caetano from Modesto, CA. Their business has grown tremendously over the past 15 years with VersaCold and continues strong. The facility is proving so productive that an 85,000 square foot expansion is in the works for the near future with the potential addition of rail service. VersaCold’s Tacoma location has brought 65 jobs to the area, which could grow to 100 with the expansion.
