Community-based healthcare organization reduces service time from three weeks to one day

Cary, NC — October 25, 2004 — Ultimus, a provider of business process management (BPM) and workflow automation solutions, today announced that ProHealth Care has selected the Ultimus BPM Suite for its business process automation and workflow needs. ProHealth said the decision to automate vital processes has improved prompted service time for customer IT requests, which now average only one day in duration versus three weeks before implementation.

An integrated, community-based healthcare delivery system, ProHealth Care was established in 1998 as a not-for-profit corporation. The company's healthcare system, which includes multiple hospitals, primary care clinics and facilities, has more than 700 affiliated physicians handling approximately 1,300 admissions per month.

Like organizations in many industries today, healthcare providers are often faced with labor-intensive and inefficient processes. Seeking to alleviate the burden imposed by these inefficiencies, ProHealth Care said it turned to the Ultimus BPM Suite to provide an integration layer between application workflow solutions and also to automate electronic processes with audit trails.

"With such a diverse organization, we needed one application to automate and standardize processes across our organization," said Cynthia Overby, manager of Network Services, ProHealth Care. "The Ultimus BPM Suite has allowed us to focus our energies on helping our patients, rather than spending unnecessary time on administrative housekeeping."

Through its use of the new software, ProHealth said it has been able to realize process improvements: The processes behind IT customer service requests have eliminated phone tag as well as incomplete and incorrect data entries. The automated process now holds at a given step until all information is entered and verified. Previously, such processes could take up to three weeks to resolve, and they often held incomplete data. Today the same incident using the automated processes averages one day.
