Sees opportunity in growth of U.S., global homebuilding market

Berwyn, PA — March 3, 2004 — IDS Scheer North America, a provider of business process management (BPM) services and tools, has formed an engineering and construction industry consulting practice, combining the vertical market expertise of IDS' North American and European consultants to create a unit dedicated to the homebuilding, commercial real estate and facilities management industries.

The new practice will concentrate on the needs of homebuilders, manufactured home builders, modular builders, commercial construction, commercial real estate management, facilities management and complex machinery manufacturers.

IDS says this initiative to target the homebuilder market is validated by data published by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), which show that residential builders will construct about 80 percent of the more than 1.77 million new housing units projected for 2004, making housing one of the largest and most powerful engines of economic growth in the country.

The global construction market shows even more promise, IDS says. According to a recent McGraw-Hill study of the global construction market, the U.S. market represents less than 21 percent of the world's $3.5 trillion in construction spending.

Mathias Kirchmer, CEO of IDS Scheer North America, said that for this new practices area, the company would leverage its SAP implementation consulting, business process tools and partnerships with best-of-breed technology providers.

"Regardless of size or geography, IDS Scheer has the global reach to provide solutions, services and technologies to large and small engineering companies alike," said Kirchmer.
