Chinese PC maker's distribution centers ramping up with logistics services to ensure efficiency

Singapore  September 9, 2003  Sinotrans, together with Exel-Sinotrans Freight Forwarding Co. Ltd, the China operations of Exel, a supply chain management solution provider, today announced that it has signed a contract with Legend Group, which is China's largest PC maker, to provide logistics services for the company's finished products distribution centers in Beijing and Shanghai.

Legend Group selected Exel's integrated solutions and capabilities in the technology sector to ensure the efficiency of the PC maker's national supply chain operations.

In addition to the service parts distribution handled since early this year, Exel-Sinotrans said it would provide management for the distribution centers (DC) and the implementation of IT systems for the operations. The project went live last month.

In addition, the Sinotrans group is building a new logistics center in Beijing by, and it is scheduled for completion in early 2004.

"High-tech manufacturing plays a significant role in Asia, and with the industry's unique supply chain requirements in mind, Exel is constantly striving to provide supply chain optimization, integration and efficiency for our customers," said Roland Chong, Exel's director, China. "Today there is constant market pressure for shorter turnaround times, just-in-time deliveries and end-to-end visibility, and Exel is equipped to handle all these requirements."

The Legend Group recently adopted a new brand named Lenovo for its IT hardware division, including PCs and mobile phones. The new name also encapsulates the company's diversified business development and plans for rapid expansion into international markets.
