Union members walked out Friday, but all container terminals should return to normal operations Monday

Feb. 1, 2016—Members of the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) staged a surprise walkout at the Port of New York and New Jersey Friday, bringing operations to a standstill, only to resume approximately nine hours later after emergency negotiations with the port’s top shipping association.

ILA members ceased working or vacated the terminal facilities around 10 a.m. at all of the port’s marine terminals, shutting down the East Coast’s busiest port.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey expects all its container terminals to open as usual Monday with full service.
