Atlanta—Oct. 15, 2013—UPS expanded its Preferred Less-Than-Container Load (LCL) expedited ocean freight service by offering access between Asia to three destinations in Mexico: Monterrey, Mexico City and Guadalajara. Customers can also take advantage of the visibility technologies used for UPS package shipments to ensure shippers can better anticipate and control their inbound supply chain operations.
Mexico continues to gain momentum and strengthen trade with Asia as ocean lane imports are forecasted by the Seabury Group to grow at a compounded average growth rate (CAGR) of 12.1 percent through 2016, compared to a 6.5 percent growth projection globally. UPS's Preferred LCL lane enhancements highlight the company's continuous effort in meeting customer demand, especially as it relates to international market trends.

UPS's Preferred LCL service was first launched in the spring of 2011 and provides up to 20 percent faster port-to-door delivery to Mexico for LCL shipments, while delivering the economic advantages of ocean freight. The time-in-transit improvements are the result of utilizing UPS's existing North American freight network and the UPS CrossBorder Connect service. By integrating LCL service, UPS's brokerage capabilities and the UPS CrossBorder Connect service can reduce customs delays associated with border regulations, inspections and lengthy paperwork.
UPS continues to operate in the ocean freight market for expedited LCL services, providing Preferred LCL service from 27 Asian ports and seven western European ports to the U.S., Canada and now to three destinations in Mexico. According to UPS, with this expansion, it has more origins and destinations for expedited LCL service from Asia to North America than any other provider.
