Mitsubishi Goes to Market

Japan isnt e-savvy, but that wont stop Mitsubishi from opening a new e-marketplace

Mitsubishi Corporation signed on as Commerce Ones latest partner earlier today. The new duo intends to establish an e-marketplace aimed at Japans gas, chemical and utilities industries. This market is expected to generate transactions worth billions of dollars in the near future.

Its hard to believe, but in Japan the new marketplace faces a unique challenge. The technology-rich country has not embraced electronic commerce like their western counterparts, according to Hajime Kimura, chief operating officer, e-Commerce Division of Mitsubishi Corporation. Mitsubishi is among the early adopters in Japan, taking the lead using Commerce Ones solutions. We intend to create a robust platform for electronic B2B that will provide access to global buyers and sellers in key vertical markets.

To further strengthen its partnership and support its e-commerce operations, the Tokyo-based company is establishing links with the technology providers subsidiaries, including INTEC Communications, e-CubeNet.com, and Bewith. The company hopes to provide value-added services by linking these businesses, according to Kimura.
