Media giant chooses e-procurement solution

NORWOOD, MA -- December 27, 2000 -- Media giant Viacom has selected an automated procurement system from solution provider elcom.

Under the agreement between the two companies, Viacom and its divisions and subsidiaries will be able to use elcom's PECOS Internet Procurement Manager, a remotely-hosted e-procurement platform.

Viacom owns such media brands as CBS, MTV, Paramount Pictures, Blockbuster and Simon & Schuster. With several Viacom units looking at the elcom solution, the media company could become the largest community of licensees using PECOS Internet Procurement Manager, according to Robert J. Crowell, chairman & CEO of Elcom International, the parent company of elcom.

"Using PECOS Internet Procurement Manager, Viacom and its subsidiaries are well positioned to decrease their product costs and generate significant internal savings," said Crowell.

The win is elcom's second for the last week of 2000. On Tuesday, the University of Pittsburgh chose elcom's e-procurement solution to pilot the automation of its purchasing processes.

Elcom International, through its wholly owned subsidiary elcom, provides remotely hosted e-procurement and e-marketplace solutions. elcom says its solutions compete against such companies as Ariba, Commerce One, PurchasePro.com and Clarus Corporation.
