Fort Worth, TX August 15, 2002 Railroad Burlington Northern Santa Fe this week took the wraps off a new logistics offering to be offered by a new subsidiary.
The newly formed BNSF Logistics, a wholly owned subsidiary of BNSF headquartered in Springdale, Ark., will offer customers a suite of logistics products and services, including network analysis, design and optimization, and a variety of execution services, including multi-modal transportation management.
BNSF said its new logistics operation has acquired certain assets of Clicklogistics, which will form BNSF Logistics' management infrastructure and customer base. Acquisition costs were not disclosed.
Clicklogistics is a privately held, third-party logistics and technology company that was formed in 1997 and is headquartered in Boston, Mass.
"The formation of BNSF Logistics is further example of our commitment to reach deeper into our customers' supply chains," said Matt Rose, BNSF chairman, president and CEO. "Through BNSF Logistics, BNSF plans to provide customers with more efficient logistics solutions."
Rose said Eric Wolfe, formerly the chief operating officer of Clicklogistics, has been appointed vice president of BNSF Logistics. "I'm extremely pleased to join BNSF because of its commitment to providing its customers with a set of logistics resources rarely available in the 3PL arena," said Wolfe.
Wolfe has nearly 15-years experience in transportation and logistics. He began his career with J.B. Hunt Transport Services 1988, ultimately serving as vice president of Operations for J.B. Hunt Logistics (now a part of Transplace). In 1997, he joined the new venture-company Cardinal Logistics (the predecessor of Clicklogistics) as senior vice president for logistics. Wolfe was named chief operating officer of Clicklogistics in late 1999.
In July, Meridian IQ, a transportation solutions management company of Yellow Corp., agreed to acquire certain material assets of Clicklogistics, consisting primarily of customer contracts and key employees within the Clicklogistics sales, operations and professional services group.
