Mountain View, CA October 4, 2002 Online product lifecycle management (PLM) provider bom.com said it has three new manufacturing customers that will use its services to manage their new product introduction (NPI) processes. bom.com said it plans to organize product definition information, communicate with globally dispersed contract manufacturers and gain greater control over changing product data for the companies.
Among the new customers choosing the bom.com solution are: Accordion Networks, which designs and supplies onsite broadband multi-services activation platforms; Accumux Technologies, which develops and delivers high-precision optical components and sub-systems for DWDM fiber-optic communication systems; and Strida Bicycle, which manufactures the world's lightest folding production bicycle.
bom.com said it provides a centralized environment for managing product data, making it easy for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), suppliers and outsourced partners to collaborate in real time around a single set of information regardless of geographic location or IT infrastructure. The explained that this is valuable for OEMs that need a secure way to share continually changing product data with contract manufacturers.
Steedman Bass, managing director of Strida Bicycle, said his company implemented bom.com just as their transition to a contract manufacturer in Asia was starting to spiral out-of-control. "bom.com enabled a design firm in Windsor [UK], the management team in London, an assembly operation in Taiwan and a manufacturer in China to all get on the same page in real time. I wish we had known about bom.com months ago when we were still in the development phase; the hand-off to production would have been much smoother," he explained. "But now we use the system to organize complete product specifications and documents, manage the quotation process and keep our contract manufacturers in Taiwan and China ahead of, instead of behind, the change process. There is simply not another product on the market that combines the user-friendliness, functionality, stability and ease of implementation of bom.com. We'll never look back."
