SAS Unveils Analytics Suite

Supply Chain Intelligence targets spend, value chain analysis, plus demand and process factors

Cary, NC February 13, 2003 Solution provider SAS this week introduced a new supply chain analytics suite intended to help companies to drive revenue and reduce costs by anticipating customer demand, improving procurement strategies and identifying actions that achieve targeted customer and quality service levels.

SAS says its Supply Chain Intelligence application is based on the company's Intelligence Architecture, which uses data access, warehousing, cleansing and mining to allow companies to generate intelligence from their existing transactional supply chain management (SCM) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.

Supply Chain Intelligence is comprised of four solutions, two of which are currently in limited release. Companies will be able to deploy all the solutions or use them individually to solve their specific supply chain problems, according to SAS.

The Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) solution is intended to help companies more effectively analyze their spend by delivering supplier intelligence through a Web-enabled environment to all levels within the purchasing organization. It provides strategy alignment/scorecarding, opportunity exploration and analysis/decision support functionality.

The Value Chain Analytics (VCA) solution provides a common platform for internal departments and/or external trading partners to examine the mutual costs attributed to moving products through distribution systems from post-production to the final consumer.

Demand Intelligence, which is available on a limited basis today, with general availability expected in the fourth quarter, produces demand forecasts to optimize promotions, pricing and production plans. SAS says that the solution's holistic view of the influences and immediate effects of consumer demand allows enterprises to understand and anticipate customer demand, allowing them to employ market-driven planning to create a unified strategy for better serving customers while simultaneously optimizing profits.

Finally, the Process Intelligence solution is intended to allow manufacturing and engineering operations to maximize value creation, including driving problem solving, improving product quality and yield, and reducing cycle times and time-to-market by using integrated data to institute the right problem-solving, monitoring, control and improvement actions. This solution also is available now on a limited basis today, with general availability expected in the fourth quarter.

In addition, SAS has formed a new SAS Supply Chain Analytics Consulting Group that will be responsible for developing deployment methodologies and best practices to address analytical issues facing organizations.
