Medical technology company selects webMethods for common integration platform

Fairfax, VA Ñ March 5, 2003 Ñ webMethods Inc., a provider of integration software, this week announced that BD (Becton, Dickinson and Co.), a medical technology company with a broad range of medical supplies, devices, laboratory equipment and diagnostic products, has implemented the webMethods Integration Platform. BD said it is using the webMethods Integration Platform to extend the company's internal business processes with BD customers.

Like many global companies, BD maintains a portfolio of business processes and systems with functional depth and breadth, but it has no easy way to integrate its customers with those internal processes. In order to facilitate a closer business relationship between BD and its customers, the company said it is developing a common integration platform based on webMethods' suite of integration products.

BD operates three business segments: BD Medical Systems, BD Biosciences and BD Clinical Laboratory Solutions, each with its own distinct business processes. By implementing an enterprise-wide integration strategy, BD is gains the infrastructure necessary to expand and improve these channels, enabling faster response to market conditions and customer needs.

In addition, with the integration platform implemented company-wide BD said it can expand its participation in e-business opportunities, such as GHX (Global Health Exchange), which aids supply chain management and collaboration with customers and distributors. BD in North America and Europe already participates in GHX to differing levels, but the webMethods Integration Platform is enabling business process automation by linking front-office business applications with the company's back-office applications.

"In order to increase operating efficiencies and quickly respond to the changing economic landscape, BD needed to integrate its diverse information systems and automate business processes on a common integration platform," said Darren Oberst, vice president and general manager, Industries and Systems Integrators, webMethods Inc. "With the webMethods integration platform, BD now has a solid IT infrastructure for business process automation."
