Engineering collaboration specialist to use funding for sales and marketing expansion

Marlborough, MA  May 4, 2004  Solution provider Proficiency has raised $12 million in its fourth major round of financing, with the new funds to support market expansion and sales initiatives.

Proficiency specializes in engineering collaboration and design data interoperability, offering solutions for feature-based computer-aided design (CAD) interoperability. The company said its Collaboration Gateway solution allows development teams within manufacturers and their suppliers to collaborate on the design of complex products.

Headquartered in Marlborough, Mass., Proficiency is privately held. The company has raised approximately $50 million in venture capital.

Ampersand Ventures led investors in Proficiency's latest, Series D round, joined by earlier investors Carmel Ventures, Charles River Ventures, Concord Ventures, Eucalyptus Ventures, Genesis Partners, Koor Corporate Venture Capital and Pitango Venture Capital.

"Proficiency set out to solve one of the manufacturing industry's most complex engineering challenges," said Scott Berkey, president and CEO of Proficiency. "Today, we have production customers satisfying the demands of their supply chain faster, more economically and with better quality. This is why we can attract top-tier investors such as Ampersand to Proficiency."

With the closing of the financing round, Marc Dulude, general partner of Ampersand Ventures, joined Proficiency's board of directors. Dulude is currently chairman of Moldflow Corporation, where he served as president and CEO from 1996 to 2002. Prior to Moldflow, he was senior vice president of marketing at PTC (formerly Parametric Technology Corp.).
