U.S. Department of Defense Signs Contract with Accenture

Forecasting improvement contract to advance supply chain cost and performance

Arlington, Va.Aug. 14, 2012—The U.S. Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense awarded Accenture Federal Services a two-year contract to identify ways that will improve forecasting techniques throughout the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD). Accenture, a global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company, will work with forecasting, inventory and metrics leads from all branches of the military and the Defense Logistics Agency to baseline current practices for forecasting Department of Defense inventory.

“As budgets continue to shrink and demand for smart business decisions increases, analytics and simulation are essential tools to accelerate and improve supply chain systems,” said John Goodman, Managing Director, US Defense Portfolio, Accenture.

Work will focus on the lifecycle of an item or weapons system: when it is fully fielded, when it has an established operational requirement and when it is being phased out of operations. Accenture will use advanced analytics and simulation tools to determine how enhanced forecasting processes may help improve forecast accuracy, inventory levels and supply chain performance.
