Heinen’s Fine Foods Implements Aldata Direct Store Delivery

Centrally-managed solution allows retailers to improve quality, reduce costs, control errors and accurately reconcile invoices

AtlantaJune 26, 2012—Retail and distribution improvement software solutions provider Aldata announced that Cleveland, Ohio-based Heinen’s Fine Foods deployed Aldata Direct Store Delivery to optimize the direct delivery of perishable products from vendors direct to its stores.

A third generation, family-owned chain of neighborhood stores, Heinen’s uses Aldata Direct Store Delivery to ensure the freshness and in-stock position of DSD Products in all of its grocery stores.

“Heinen’s Fine Foods based its business on being a specialty grocer that consistently offers super fresh produce, meat, fish and bakery items,” said Rick Fink, Director of Supply Chain, Heinen’s Fine Foods. “With Aldata Direct Store Delivery, Heinen’s is able to further distance itself from the large grocery chains by decreasing the time it takes for us to get food from the farm to our customers’ tables.”

Aldata DSD ensures that perishable or high-turnover products—such as bread or fish—are fresh and consistently in stock by enabling them to bypass distribution centers, minimize the number of days in the supply chain and arrive directly at the store shelf. Aldata’s DSD System is designed to facilitate the delivery of products at the right cost, while protecting both retail profit margins and the stores’ in-stock position.

Additional benefits of Aldata DSD include:

  • Demand Forecasting and Intelligent Ordering ensure customers receive fresh, consistently-available merchandise
  • Bypassed warehouse operations materially reduce labor and transport costs
  • Improved store operational controls which minimize delivery errors, incorrect costs, forgotten discounts and time-consuming manual processing

“With Aldata DSD we have created a comprehensive, easy-to-deploy, centrally-managed solution that allows retailers to seamlessly authorize assortments, place and manage orders, receive inventory with minimal effort, accurately reconcile invoices and report on vendor performance,” said Brendan Lowe, President, Aldata. “Aldata DSD accomplishes this by eliminating the current need to 'host' data to the store, helping to control inventory based on a Centralized System with a science-based Replenishment Engine. Additionally, built-in Invoice Reconciliation streamlines vendor invoice processing and accurately identifies discrepancies."
