Although voice-directed picking may take distributors to higher logistics levels someday, operations managers should try listening to their warehouse personnel for now

  • 99 percent. Most warehouse that use radio-frequency scanning and a warehouse management system (WMS) have accuracy rates above 99 percent.

  • 15 percent. In an RF scanning environment, pickers spend approximately 15 percent of their picking time reading and keying into an RF device.

  • 55 percent. Pickers spend 55 percent of their time traveling from one product location to another.

  • 30 percent. Less than one-third of a picker's time is spent with your most valuable asset: inventory.
