Systems integrator selects Symbol platform to improve warehouse operations, maximize productivity
Holtsville, NY — February 24, 2006 — Systems integrator World Wide Technology, Inc. (WWT) has selected an enterprise mobility solution from Symbol for its warehouses and distribution facilities throughout the United States as part of a drive to improve worker productivity and increase device manageability.
WWT is using Symbol's MC9060-K rugged mobile computers and Mobility Services Platform (MSP) to capture, move and manage mission-critical data to improve its warehouse operations.
With Symbol's MC9060-K mobile computers, WWT warehouse employees are able to capture the detail of boxes containing IT and telecommunications products as they move through the warehouse to shipment. The mobile computers allow for real-time visibility into inventory and also eliminate the need for constant scanner repositioning and multiple scans, as was previously necessary.
Improving Productivity — and Data Quality
"The Symbol MC9060-K significantly improved employee productivity, data quality and process efficiency while also providing the superior ruggedness that is essential in any warehouse environment," said Craig Frederking, director of IT operations for WWT. "We combined the mobile computers with Symbol's MSP to help us tackle the challenges associated with deploying, managing and maintaining a mobile enterprise."
Symbol said its MSP software enables the management of mobile devices, applications and wireless infrastructure from one central location. WWT selected MSP because it allows administrators to quickly configure and deploy devices remotely and cost effectively, and with MSP the time and costs WWT associated with initial and ongoing device deployment were significantly reduced, according to the solution provider.
"A Symbol-based warehouse management solution provides visibility into inventory and allows for quicker velocity of products through the warehouse," said Gerald McNerney, Symbol's senior director of supply chain execution.
Service with a Start
WWT also selected Symbol's multi-year Service from the Start service plan, which provides enhanced support beyond the standard product warranty, including priority response and call escalation, guaranteed product turnaround time and device coverage including cosmetic repair.
"WWT implemented Symbol's enterprise mobility solution because Symbol provides continuous service and support from purchase decision through deployment," added Frederking. "With the multi-year Service from the Start service plan, we were guaranteed top services and support for our investment."
