Food company taps Hanson to manage customized transportation program for procurement, optimization, compliance

St. Joseph, MI — June 29, 2006 — Cole's Quality Foods has awarded a multi-year transportation management contract to Hanson Logistics, a provider of temperature-controlled supply chain management services, the logistics company has announced.

The new program marks Cole's initiative in outsourcing transportation and related supply chain activities. Under the new contract, Hanson will manage a customized transportation program for procurement, optimization, visibility and compliance. The program takes advantage of Hanson transportation capacity and distribution facilities, while leveraging the logistics company's consolidation program and information systems.

"Hanson has much greater access to carrier capacity and can give us better visibility across the supply chain," said John Sommavilla, president of Cole's Quality Foods. "Day-to-day, they interface with our customer service to build optimum loads, while managing both inbound and outbound. Long term, they are mapping out the most responsive and cost-effective fulfillment process. This allows us to focus on our core competency, as a leading brand in bread and bakery products."

The new Cole's program exemplifies how midsize consumer product companies can cost effectively meet the sophisticated order deliver criteria of major retailers through strategic inventory placement and multi-vendor consolidation, such as Hanson's Velocities program, the logistics company said.

"We're very pleased that Cole's has selected our team for this program," said Gregory Hanson, President, Hanson Logistics. "Our expertise and critical mass adds value through the supply chain; our team's 'Yes, We Can' attitude makes it happen. We look forward to delivering success to the Cole's brand."

Hanson Logistics provides transportation, warehouse and logistics services. The company operates a refrigerated truck fleet and seven facilities in the central states, totaling 32 million cu. ft., making it the 13th largest refrigerated public warehouse in the United States.
