ODIN technologies teams with Symbol Technologies to support recent contract win with the DLA for Department of Defense initiative
Holtsville, NY — July 12, 2006 — Radio frequency identification specialist ODIN technologies has tapped Symbol Technologies to support its recent contract win with the United States Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), the United States Department of Defense's (DoD) logistics combat support agency that provides supplies and services to America's military forces worldwide.
ODIN chose Symbol's XR400 series of fixed readers and AN400 antennas as part of a UHF RFID solution that will automatically indicate receipt of incoming RFID-tagged shipments from select DoD suppliers. ODIN's part in the indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract is valued at $14.2 million and calls for the deployment of passive UHF RFID equipment throughout 26 defense distribution centers globally by the end of 2007.
The DLA first used Symbol's RFID technology in its operations in 2005 in support of a mandate for specific suppliers to tag cases and pallets of military supplies shipped to its two busiest distribution centers.
