Taps on-demand logistics service from Cube Route to provide dispatchers with real-time visibility into status of deliveries

Toronto — January 5, 2005 — Reliable Food Supplies is using an on-demand logistics service from Cube Route to provide its dispatchers with real-time visibility into the status of deliveries being made by vehicles in the company's fleet.

Scarborough, Ontario-based Reliable Food Supplies is a 51-year-old player in the foodservice industry, using its warehousing facilities and a fleet of refrigerated trucks to deliver than 4,500 food items to its customers. The family-owned company has about 80 employees.

The logistics application that Reliable Foods had been using on and off for ten years was too expensive to maintain, and the reports were too difficult to run and complicated to decipher. In addition, while the cartridge-based computer processors mounted in some of its refrigerated trucks were useful for tracking vehicle RPMs and speed levels, they did not provide the "at a glance" information required to quickly identify delivery trouble spots in real time. As a result, Reliable Foods was unable to effectively monitor and keep abreast of the day-to-day delivery activities and any exceptions that are central to its business.

The subscription-based Cube Route Visibility service now being used by Reliable Foods tracks vehicles using any wireless-to-Web device, including cell phones, GPS phones, handheld PDAs or customer field tracking units. Reliable Foods drivers were already using Java-based mobile phones, so switching to Cube Route was a seamless process, according to the solution provider.

The Visibility service captures a variety of data in real-time, including mileage, productivity tracking, timecards, exception handling, temperature and signatures. This eliminates the need to reengineer existing processes and incur additional capital costs. The Visibility service also provides a variety of reporting tools that are used to present tracked data in an easy to understand manner.

In addition to providing a way to track daily deliveries, the Cube Route service also enabled dispatchers to monitor pickup orders scheduled into each driver's daily delivery route. After seeing the positive results achieved through real time visibility into its delivery operations, Reliable Foods made the decision to roll out the service fleet-wide.

"Before Cube Route, reports on any exceptions, changes or problems in the daily delivery schedule would only be available to us the following day, [and] as a result, the majority of issues remained unresolved," said Tony Priaulx, information technology manager with Reliable Foods. "Cube Route provides an affordable and effective way for us to stay on top of our delivery operations. Our dispatchers simply log in to the Web-based service at any time of the day to see the status of all deliveries in real time. Best of all, we got the results we were looking for without any financial risk as there were no upfront costs to implement the service."

"Companies like Reliable Foods are realizing the tremendous benefits that can be achieved through visibility into their delivery operations," said Jeff Murphy, vice president of operations at Cube Route. "Reliable Foods can optimize its costs across the organization while improving its customer service."
