Chicago — January 25, 2005 — Specialty beverage company Boyd Coffee has signed up to implement an industry-specific suite of applications from IFS in a bid to streamline its supply chain and improve productivity.

Based in Portland, Ore., Boyd Coffee Company manufactures specialty coffees, espresso, teas and related equipment for restaurants and other food service operations worldwide. The company, founded in 1900, offers more than 650 coffee and food items.

"We hired the consulting firm Steady Improvement, Inc., to help us with selection and to work with the IFS project manager to manage our end of the implementation," said John Gillam, vice president of business effectiveness for Boyd Coffee.

Gillam explained that Boyd started with company-wide APICS fundamental and lean manufacturing education, mapped its processes and developed a list of key functional requirements. "We chose IFS because they met or exceeded those requirements in every area while providing outstanding references," Gillam said.

Boyd is looking to IFS' applications, developed for the food and beverage industry, to help the company improve lot control and production planning, implement constraint-based scheduling and provide a corporate-wide integrated information system for the first time. "In the long run, we expect IFS to make a substantial contribution to our continuous improvement initiatives," Gillam predicted.

Cindy Jaudon, president of IFS North America, said that IFS' solutions for the food and beverage industry supports critical business processes for companies like Boyd, including lot/batch control, recipe management, constraint-based scheduling, quality control and customer relationship management.

Other IFS customers in the food and beverage industry include Pepsi Shanghi, Iams, Kettle Foods, Tazo Tea and and Canbra Foods. IFS also provides industry-specific support for enterprises in the pulp and paper, metal, paint and adhesive and pharmaceutical industry segments.
