Name change reflects new service offering, strategic direction for Michigan-based company
Benton Harbor, MI — February 2, 2005 — Hanson Cold Storage announced this week that after 50 years of service to the frozen food industry, the company is changing its name to Hanson Logistics, effective February 1.
The company said that the change in moniker marks a milestone in the company's plan to become a high value, technology-based logistics provider in the temperature-controlled market.
Founded in 1954, Hanson Cold Storage built its reputation for temperature-controlled warehousing primarily in southern Michigan. In the late 1990's, the company acquired and expanded a deep frozen distribution center in Lafayette, Ind., as the cornerstone for consolidation and less-than-truckload (LTL) distribution services.
Last year, the company established a separate logistics division, supported by "on-demand" transportation software from LeanLogistics and a warehouse management system, called ViaView, from Provia. The company began assisting customers with outbound transportation from its warehouses in November 2004 and plans to offer scheduled temperature-controlled consolidation and LTL distribution to points in the central states beginning in the first quarter of 2005.
"Our new name reflects our near-term objective of providing our customers with a single source for warehousing and transportation," said company President Greg Hanson. "Our customers have received top-flight warehousing for the past 50 years, and we intend to build upon that quality standard as we roll out cost-effective, responsive transportation management services."
Hanson added that in the longer term, his company's focus on providing "hands-on" supply chain services will encompass dedicated warehousing solutions, pool distribution and transportation management throughout the U.S. market. "Our broadened management team and our investment in web-based technology add expertise and innovation to Hanson Logistics emerging capabilities," he said.
Hanson Logistics currently provides transportation, warehouse and logistics services. The company operates eight facilities in the central states, totaling 32 million cubic feet, and is the 13th largest refrigerated public warehouse in the United States.
