MindFlow touts advantages of Web-based offering for helping companies apply best-in-class decision templates to new sourcing categories

Plano, TX — April 13, 2005 — MindFlow Technologies, a provider of "on-demand" applications for inbound supply chain planning and sourcing optimization, this week pointed to its Category-in-a-Box offering as a solution capable of bridging gaps identified in a supply management solutions report by Aberdeen Group.

In its benchmark report, "On-demand Supply Management: Filling the Gaps in Your Supply Management Infrastructure," Aberdeen examines the on-demand strategies of 147 global companies and details best practice case studies from early-adopter "pioneers" of the on-demand delivery model. MindFlow said its on-demand offering is particularly effective because it includes best-in-class decision templates to help companies tackle a wide variety of categories.

"On-demand entails more solution elements and a fundamentally different business model from its predecessor, ASP (application service provider)," said Richard Waugh, a lead analyst in Aberdeen's Design-to-Procure Practice. "Whereas ASP really just offered a hosting service to client companies that purchased perpetual software licenses, on-demand users subscribe to software as a service — with services including applications, content, and specialized services such as category management or spot buying, in addition to application management and hosting."

Category-in-a-Box is uniquely positioned to meet the requisite content and specialized services elements prescribed by Aberdeen, according to MindFlow. The solution captures the process of building category sourcing models to dynamically model and understand sourcing scenarios, business rules and constraints. "Using Category-in-a-Box, companies build best practice category sourcing models that deliver immediate savings and establish factual decision support into the future," MindFlow said.

Mark Grefer, executive vice president of MindFlow, said: "Category-in-a-Box gives sourcing teams the freedom to concentrate more fully on designing and exploring supply chain improvements rather than fighting a 'system' battle. We go live faster than any other solution, earn higher cross-functional consensus and adoption, compliment [enterprise resource planning (ERP)] systems, and have the sourcing content and expertise to help our customers remain focused on their 'art' of sourcing."
