Holtsville, NY — May 23, 2005 — Symbol Technologies Inc., a provider of enterprise mobility solutions, today introduced a rugged laser cordless scanner for industrial environments.

Symbol said the new LS3478-ER and LS3478-FZ scanners are designed for warehouse, manufacturing and retail applications that require a cordless scanner in harsh environments.

"The LS3400 family of scanners is designed for customers that need to capture data in an industrial environment without being tethered by a cable to a host system," said Bob Sanders, vice president and general manager of Symbol's advanced data capture division.

The LS3478-FZ scanner features "fuzzy logic" technology, which the company said is designed to provide accurate and fast reading of damaged, dirty and poorly printed bar codes typically found in industrial environments. The LS3478-ER scanner can read bar codes as close as four inches and as far as 45 feet away.

The LS3478-ER and LS3478-FZ rugged cordless scanners are based on Bluetooth technology, sealed to IP65 specifications against water and dust, and have the ability to withstand multiple 6.5 foot drops to concrete. Symbol said they are well suited for various industrial applications, including shipping/receiving, inventory management, asset tracking and fork lift applications.

Both the LS3478-ER and LS3478-FZ are available immediately.
