Solution allows business users to configure, modify, test custom planning, scheduling applications

Mountain View, CA — July 22, 2005 — Solution provider ILOG this week debut a new tool that automatically generates custom planning and scheduling applications, offering the prospect of saving companies millions in operating costs and increasing their responsiveness to business change.

The new Optimization Decision Manager (ODM) is also the first optimization-based application development tool that lets business users configure and modify the applications that will drive their operational decision making, ILOG said. The solution lets business users create, test and compare scenarios before committing to a particular plan or schedule.

Targeted at businesses that want to develop standalone optimization-based decision support applications, ODM allows users to create plans and schedules to match business realities by enabling them to take into account all the costs, operating constraints, customer requirements, employee preferences and goals inherent in economic planning and the operational management of complex schedules.

ILOG said that ODM introduces various innovations to the planning and scheduling process. Since businesses rarely make major decisions about resources without testing their ideas first, ODM provides "out of the box" what-if analysis and scenario comparison so that users can understand the impact of change on their business.

In addition, ODM allows business users to adjust assumptions, operating constraints and goals for planning and scheduling resources and see the results in familiar business terminology, allowing them to identify the best strategy for a range of business problems, such as where to locate warehouse distributions centers, whether to build a new plant or assembly line, or how to schedule staff optimally while considering customer service requirements, labor laws, skills requirements and employee preferences.

"Business users can interact with the system and have greater insights into the underlying conflicts and economics and more faith in the recommended schedule or plan," ILOG said in announcing the new solution.
