Grocery distributor deploys Voxware's solution, sees improved accuracy and reduced costs

Lawrenceville, NJ ? October 25, 2005 ? Grocery distributor Mitchell Grocery has selected a solution from Voxware to voice-enable its logistics operations, which serve more than 250 independent supermarkets in the Southeast.

A wholesale grocery distribution center, Mitchell Grocery ships 80 truckloads each day and delivers 500,000 cases per week, of dry groceries, milk, produce and ice cream, so careful attention to accuracy and cost is the foundation for the success of the company's logistics operation. Now the company is adopting Voxware's VoiceLogistics to voice-enable its operations.

"We chose Voxware's VoiceLogistics based on the proven results of Voxware customers in the food distribution industry," said David Mitchell, president of Mitchell Grocery. "Voxware's customers were extremely satisfied and had experienced significant improvements in accuracy and overall productivity."

Mitchell said that, since deploying VoiceLogistics, his company had seen a 50 percent improvement in the accuracy of our loading and order selection processes. "We have reduced shorts and mispicks and introduced more precision into the loading operation, which has lowered costs and improved customer satisfaction," he said. "As a result, the VoiceLogistics system will pay for itself in less than six months."

Mitchell Grocery's consideration of several voice vendors included numerous on-site visits to evaluate different systems. "What it came down to was Voxware's flexibility and consultative approach, which ensured that their system fit our processes," explained Mitchell. "We did not have to change what we were doing to accommodate VoiceLogistics."

"Voice has become an indispensable building block in any flexible and efficient supply chain operation, and our customers are moving to multiple voice applications," said Tom Drury, Voxware CEO. "Companies want to leverage new opportunities for returns on their investment in voice logistics technology, and Voxware is leading the way by offering advanced voice solutions in applications that include loading, replenishment, receiving, putaway and cycle count."

"Voxware deployed the VoiceLogistics system in six weeks," said John Morton, outbound manager at Mitchell Grocery. "VoiceLogistics keeps all workers on task and focused. By confirming location and item, the system dramatically reduces inaccuracies, and the use of voice for perishable items in the refrigerator/freezer environment provides tremendous benefits. Picking accuracy reduced unsaleables, which is a considerable cost savings. The system is very flexible and very sensitive to the nuances of each user's voice, and with Voxware's training we were up and running in a few days."

Voxware's VoiceLogistics system is also used for loading at Mitchell Grocery. The loading application tracks and confirms that all pallets are successfully loaded to the proper trailer. By alerting the loader to any missing items, the system helps ensure accurate store deliveries. Accuracy rates have increased to the point where order checking is no longer necessary prior to loading.

Beyond picking and loading, Voxware said that VoiceLogistics reduces replenishment time by enabling pickers to dynamically pull from other locations and voice that information into the system, which, in turn, reduces shorts. VoiceLogistics also allows Mitchell Grocery to perform consolidated picking for slow moving items stored in a separate building, resulting in further time savings. The VoiceLogistics system also produces a printed manifest, which speeds the identification of specific items in each shipment and improves Mitchell Grocery's credibility with their customers, according to the solution provider.
