Logistics service provider deploys multimodal solution from Descartes to improve visibility for global shipments

Waterloo, Ontario — November 17, 2005 — Logistics service provider Cargo Express has expanded its relationship with solution provider Descartes Systems Group, deploying Descartes' Multimodal Track & Trace service to improve service and efficiency through better visibility to global shipments.

Cargo Express specializes in providing small and midsize businesses with ocean import/export services, shipment consolidation, customs brokerage services and domestic intermodal transportation for rail, truck and air.

Descartes said that Multimodal Track & Trace service, delivered via the Descartes Global Logistics Network (GLN) gives Cargo Express the ability to track the current status of shipments across different transportation modes and carriers via a single interface. In addition, the service's intuitive user interface offers Cargo Express' customers self-serve access to shipment status information over the Internet.

"Several other service providers approached us, but we chose to continue working with Descartes because of its innovative multimodal solution offering and the reach of the Descartes Global Logistics Network," said Joe Pfender, president of Cargo Express. "Descartes' value-added services, like Multimodal Track & Trace, leverage our existing connections to the GLN and give us the ability to cost-effectively make shipment status information easier to access for our employees and customers. This capability helps improve our productivity and customer service."

Descartes said that Multimodal Track & Trace service has helped to further streamline Cargo Express' operations by reducing the time its employees spend on the telephone and online gathering shipment status information from multiple transportation carriers. The service also assists in improving internal coordination between Cargo Express' corporate offices in Yardley, Pa., and its agents worldwide.

"The Descartes GLN enables companies like Cargo Express to efficiently connect and collaborate with trading partners across geographies and transportation modes," said Ed Ryan, Descartes' general manager for the Global Logistics Network. "Services like Multimodal Track & Trace enable our customers to gain greater value from the data exchanged via the GLN."
