Dallas and London — March 9, 2004 — Shell International Petroleum Co. Ltd. ("Shell") said it has joined Quadrem's global e-marketplace following the successful pilot of Quadrem production solutions at Shell customer sites in Chile, South Africa and the United States.

As a key supplier of hydrocarbon products and services to the mining industry, Shell made the decision to join the Quadrem e-marketplace in response to an increased demand from existing customers to do e-business.

Marion Wagner, mining e-commerce specialist at Shell, commented that e-business is a strategically important selling channel for Shell, and one that the company realized it must embrace to continue growing its customer relationships.

"Many of our mining customers have already started to transact online, using e-business tools to put work out to tender, find the best supplier and manage those relationships — so joining Quadrem seemed the ideal way to further develop our existing e-business profile," Wagner said.

"Joining Quadrem presents a key sales opportunity for Shell and allows us to strengthen our position in the e-business arena, deliver added value to our operations and bring us closer to key customers across the globe," said Shaun Scott, Shell's industrial markets manager.

Gordon Johnston, vice president of procurement at Anglo Coal, a division of Anglo American plc, and a Shell customer, said, "As one of Anglo Coal's strategic suppliers, we are delighted that Shell has decided to join Quadrem. We welcome the opportunity to jointly develop the use of e-procurement technology to our mutual benefit and to advance the success of Quadrem."

Quadrem said its e-business solutions enable corporations and their suppliers to streamline supply chain processes and conduct business online. Established in 2000, Quadrem has locations in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, France, Mexico, Peru, Singapore, South Africa, the Netherlands and the United States.

Shell International Petroleum Co. Ltd. is part of the Royal Dutch/Shell Group, a global group of energy and petrochemicals companies, operating in over 145 countries and employing more than 115,000 people.
