Deploying Visiprise MES to improve genealogy-linked defect tracking and test area management
Atlanta — April 2, 2004 — Aerospace manufacturer Thales Avionics is set to use a manufacturing solution from Visiprise as part of an initiative to help streamline quality management, enhance business visibility and reduce operation costs.
Headquartered in France, Thales produces avionics, utilities and in-flight entertainment for the aerospace industry. The company had revenues of about $1.2 billion in 2002.
Critical genealogy and test and repair-loop management are high priority items for this manufacturer, and, after an evaluation, Thales selected Visiprise's Manufacturing solution, a Web-based manufacturing execution system (MES), because the solution makes suggestions as to fault diagnosis and repair information, and it tracks repaired items throughout the manufacturing process.
This will benefit Thales Avionics in the areas of genealogy-linked defect tracking and test area management, according to Visiprise. At testing stations on production lines, Manufacturing will collect product test information automatically from instruments and provide this to operators for fault analysis. The system will use defect information to develop a failure Pareto chart for the same test failure occurring on a similar unit under test.
"Visiprise's verified defect and genealogy capabilities will significantly improve our repair-loop, work-in-process and historical defect reporting," said Paul Elliott, manufacturing engineering manager at Thales.
