Gasoline distributor set to improve operational visibility, increase return on capital equipment

Pleasanton, CA — April 5, 2004 — Hunt Refining Co., a distributor of gasoline and distillate fuel, said it has deployed PeopleSoft EnterpriseOne Asset Lifecycle Management (ALM) to manage its 43,000-barrel-per-day refining operation. Hunt said the new solution enables it to enhance operational visibility, maximize its use of plant equipment and reduce maintenance costs.

In addition, Hunt Refining selected PeopleSoft Global Services and Performance Consulting Associates (PCA), a PeopleSoft partner, to implement the ALM solution.

Hunt Refining distributes gasoline and distillate fuels, supplies home heating oil and diesel fuel, and is a regional provider of both paving and industrial grade asphalt. "Effective operation of our capital equipment is critical to the profitability of our business," said Mike Slaughter, maintenance manager at Hunt Refining. "With PeopleSoft ALM, we are able to better track reliability issues, equipment costs, and labor distribution, enabling us to identify areas of improvement. As a result, we benefit from reduced labor costs, increased equipment availability, improved job planning, and lower spare parts inventory."

Companies in asset-intensive industries such as mining, chemicals, pulp and paper, primary metals, and energy rely on well-maintained plant equipment to maximize the production of products, PeopleSoft said. Equipment failures can cause work stoppages, backflows in production, and can underutilize employee resources while the equipment is being repaired.

PeopleSoft said ALM could help resolve these issues by linking financial, operational, procurement and inventory data to preventive maintenance and work order schedules. Integrating these functions provides companies with greater visibility into their plants and equipment maintenance schedules, resulting in more efficient business operations.
