Provider expands solution footprint; beefs up capabilities for complying with RFID mandates, hours-of-service regulations

Atlanta — May 7, 2004 — Supply chain execution (SCE) specialist Manhattan Associates unveiled the latest release of its flagship suite of applications, expanding its footprint with new solutions and additional product integration, as well as tackling such new technologies as radio frequency identification (RFID).

The latest release, 2004R1, officially became available March 29, meeting Manhattan's promised date for the new version. This release includes the latest iterations of Manhattan's Integrated Logistics Solutions, which encompasses its warehouse, transportation, distributed order management and trading partner management applications, along with RFID, performance management and event management.

In this latest release, Manhattan said it has expanded its product footprint with additional solutions and continued product integration. The company has also beefed up integration with third-party vendors and partners with the goal of providing a single tool for managing the source-to-consumption supply chain.

New capabilities offer support for RFID mandates imposed by Wal-Mart and the Department of Defense, as well as the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's (FMCSA) revised hours-of-service regulations.

Applications in 2004R1 include Transportation Planning & Execution, Carrier Management, Reverse Logistics Management, Distributed Order Management and Load Management (yard management and appointment scheduling). These solutions are integrated, but they can also be installed on a modular basis.

Beefed-up global capabilities include greater transportation options, including cross-border transportation, and the single- and double-byte internationalization of products. In addition, Manhattan said that the combination of its new Integration Platform for RFID and RFID-enabled applications should make it easier for companies to deploy RFID technology.

Voice integration was improved within applications to provide increased picking accuracy and productivity, and new warehouse control integration was included as part of the 2004R1 release as well, according to Manhattan. Finally, the Warehouse Management application for Windows has been moved to the Microsoft .NET platform, which Manhattan said will provide greater stability, performance and a more standardized tool set.

2004R1 supports hardware platforms, operating systems and databases from IBM, Microsoft, Dell, Sun, HP and Oracle.
