Taps Ascential to provide central component of enterprise data warehouse strategy

Westboro, MA — July 19, 2004 — Owens Corning, a world leader in building materials systems and composites systems, today said that it has selected the Ascential Enterprise Integration Suite as part of a multi-million dollar data warehousing project designed to provide the company with the information it needs to more effectively support the decision making process.

Klaus Mikkelsen, global development leader at Owens Corning, said his company selected the Ascential Enterprise Integration Suite for its global data warehouse initiative because of the suite's ability to profile, cleanse and transform data from across the enterprise.

"We expect that the suite will help us gain an accurate, consolidated view of all aspects of our business through the establishment of an enterprise wide data warehouse," he said. "Our goal is to provide timely, reliable and actionable information to all decision makers within our company."

Ascential said the Enterprise Integration Suite should enable Owens Corning to standardize, match and de-duplicate data extracted from multiple platforms, then transform and load that data into a single, global data warehouse.

Additionally, all entities within the Owens Corning organization will be able to draw on the information in the data warehouse to support the decision making process.

"Owens Corning could see improvement in productivity and efficiency and will have the opportunity to bring relevant information for reducing the sales cycle and increasing productivity of the sales force," said Mark Smith, CEO and senior vice president of research for Ventana Research. "Ascential Software provides a data integration platform with which Owens Corning can build out its IT infrastructure for enabling business and operational performance improvement."

Mark Register, chief marketing officer and vice president of marketing, industry solutions and global alliances at Ascential Software, added that Owens Corning is improving its competitive advantage by standardizing and providing integrated access to data from systems spread across multiple geographies and business units.

"Owens Corning can attain consistency, accuracy and completeness of the company's data in bulk and on the fly, helping to transform disparate data elements into intelligent business information," Register said.
