Retailer taps Yantra apps to manage Express Pickup, inventory control, returns, and delivery and service scheduling processes

Tewksbury, MA — September 8, 2004 — Big box electronic retailer Circuit City Stores has selected a fulfillment solution from Yantra to manage various order and inventory processes as part of the company's retail technology transformation initiative.

Richmond, Va.-based Circuit City operates 604 "superstores" and five mall-based stores in 158 U.S. markets. Its subsidiary, InterTAN, operates through more than 1,000 retail stores and dealer outlets in Canada.

"One important element of our transformation initiative is moving away from the highly customized point of sale (POS) systems we currently operate to an open-standards system that still allows us to offer existing services such as Express Pickup," said Michael Jones, senior vice president, chief information officer at Circuit City.

Jones said that the ability of Yantra's Synchronized Fulfillment applications to manage order and inventory processes across the retailer's open-standards system will help ensure that Circuit City can make the POS transition, while building upon current services and creating opportunities to introduce new multi-channel fulfillment strategies.

Circuit City is currently developing its new POS system and is considering using such features in Yantra's store order management and store inventory management solutions as multi-channel distributed order management, which offers the ability to automate and manage complex fulfillment processes, such as Circuit City's Express Pickup order fulfillment and alternate store location sales.

Delivery and service scheduling features are capable of orchestrating product and service delivery and installation, and global inventory visibility and synchronization capabilities provide real- time availability and sourcing of inventory across Circuit City's more than 600 stores and its network of internal and extended supply chain facilities.

Finally, Circuit City is looking at using Yantra's reverse logistics functionality, which is capable of managing customer returns and the repair or return-to-vendor lifecycle, and the capabilities for in-store receiving, management and location-level tracking of store inventory and real-time integration to the central repository for visibility across all inventory locations.
