Provider to support deployment of new IT projects at insurance company

Fairfax, VA, and Hong Kong September 3, 2003 webMethods Inc., a provider of integration software, today announced that Manulife (International) Ltd., a member of the Canadian-based financial services group Manulife Financial group, which operates in 15 countries and territories worldwide, has selected the webMethods Integration Platform to support its deployment of a range of new services and applications.

The Hong Kong insurance company said it would use the webMethods Integration Platform to ensure that a number of new IT projects integrate seamlessly with each other, providing savings on development costs and accelerating deployment time.

"Manulife has a wide range of insurance offerings, each with its own repository of important customer information," said Ellen Mok, vice president and chief information officer, Information Technology Asia for Manulife (International) Ltd. "The key to developing better, more attractive customer offerings is to integrate these different sets of information. The webMethods platform enables us to link these disparate information systems by creating a common backbone to integrate existing systems and support new projects planned for the next three years."

Manulife, a webMethods customer since 2002, initially deployed the webMethods Integration Platform to link back office mainframe applications over the Internet so that information could be accessed from anywhere at anytime. The project provided integration expertise and led to the current project.

"The business environment in the financial services sector demands timely and accurate management information," said Nicholas Tang, general manager, Greater China, Hong Kong/Taiwan, webMethods Inc. "webMethods will provide Manulife with integration, supporting integration of the overall IT infrastructure and across individual systems."
