Upgraded business intelligence software ramps up analysis, performance and open standards support, according to provider

San Jose, Ca September 8, 2003 Business intelligence (BI) solutions provider Business Objects today announced BusinessObjects Enterprise 6.1, the latest version of its business intelligence suite for tracking and managing enterprise performance.

Available today, the provider said Enterprise 6.1 provides better performance and analysis features, data integration productivity, dashboard personalization, and enterprise deployment capabilities. The new capabilities make analysis accessible to casual report consumers and facilitate enterprise BI standardization, according to the company. The suite also provides one integrated, functionally complete BI environment for such users as casual report consumers, report authors, power users and executives.

BusinessObjects said the suite expands the on-report analysis capabilities of WebIntelligence and enables users to sort and filter data, add and remove report data, and include simple calculations without switching to a sophisticated report-authoring environment.

The Data Integrator in the new suite, according to BusinessObjects, has a new graphical user interface, and it incorporates data preview and profiling directly into the extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) environment.

The provider said dashboards and scorecards are two of today's most popular methods of analyzing and monitoring business performance. As such, the dashboards are moving from being an executive cockpit for a small number of users to a daily business tool for mainstream employees. BusinessObjects said users can personalize their own display of key performance indicators. For example, a user can organize metrics by initiative, as well as select metric attributes such as target, trend and variance that are most important to them.

Finally, BusinessObjects said Enterprise 6.1 enables organizations to manage all elements of the BI system with a central view of all objects and all dependencies in the system. It includes end-to-end impact analysis that gives administrators visibility into the interdependencies in their BI system.

"Our supply chain extranet, supported by Business Objects software, provides our customers with a high level of visibility to their transportation and order data and enables them to track and measure performance throughout the shipment process," said Peter Smith, senior vice president of logistics technology, Penske Logistics. "Penske Logistics continually looks for new ways to help our customers improve business flow and achieve their growth objectives. The increased performance, functionality, and scalability offered by BusinessObjects Enterprise 6.1 will help us to further improve operational efficiency for our customers."
