World's top glove manufacturer taps John Galt solution to spur demand planning, improve overall business

Chicago — November 19, 2004 — Glove manufacturer Wells Lamont has completed its implementation of a demand planning solution from John Galt as part of an initiative to spur demand planning at the company and improve overall business.

Headquartered in Niles, Ill., privately held Wells Lamont is the world's largest glove manufacturer, offering retail and industrial product lines. The company has separate retail and industrial business units serving the worldwide marketplace, each of which requires different methods for developing sales forecasts.

Wells Lamont's retail division sells through home improvement centers, supermarkets, discount stores and hardware chains, and specialty retailers such as outdoor outfitter and sporting goods stores. The industrial division provides hand protection through safety distributors into the industrial marketplace.

The company completed its implementation of the Demand Management Engine, a component of John Galt's Atlas Planning Suite. John Galt has integrated the Demand Management Engine with Wells Lamont's J.D. Edwards system, which runs on an IBM iSeries platform.

"We selected John Galt's Demand Management Engine because it is a powerful management tool that gives us visibility of the areas of the business that require demand plan adjustments, as well as sophisticated forecasting methods, automation and flexible reporting we need for our complex demand planning processes-yet the application can be implemented quickly and is easy to use," said Steve Bartok, demand planning manager at Wells Lamont. "In fact, it was the only software solution that offered all of the features and functionality we required to meet our process and business improvement goals."

John Galt provides solutions in the forecasting, demand planning and collaborative market space. The company said its solutions can help improve forecasting and demand planning processes at midsize businesses.
