Phoenix-based third-party logistics company deploys provider's 3PL order/warehouse management solution

Grand Rapids, MI November 22, 2004 Third party logistics (3PL) provider Freeport Logistics has gone live with a 3PL order management and warehouse management solution from Provia Software at the company's Phoenix facility.

Freeport Logistics offers a range of distribution, logistics and transportation services to its clients. The company is based in Phoenix.

With the implementation of Provia's FourSite solutions, Freeport is utilizing Provia's supply chain execution software to offer clients such services as Internet order fulfillment and visibility, kitting, order tracing, electronic data interchange (EDI) and labeling. In addition, with FourSite, Freeport has the multi-client billing, radio frequency (RF), automated billing and other functionality required for the 3PL arena, Provia said.

With the Provia solution, Freeport has already begun to see improvements over its previous system. "We specialize in tasks that are labor intensive, with narrow windows of time," explained Chris Collins, Freeport's IT manager. "Since we went live with Provia, we've tremendously increased our inventory accuracy over our previous system, reducing mispicks and the number of cycle counts."

Collins added that, with Provia, Freeport can transmit orders throughout the day and ship that same day, accurately tracking what it does for each customer. "Because of the architecture of the new system, we have a much greater level of flexibility with our logistics solution and can now use tools that we never had access to with our previous system," Collins said.

In addition to the functionality of the Provia product, Freeport has also been impressed with the Provia staff involved with the project. "A solution is more than just a product," said Collins. "The Provia staff has been supportive, professional, helpful, and [they] have demonstrated [that they are] very knowledgeable of the 3PL industry."

Freeport Logistics is also a member of Provia's 3PL Leadership Council. The 3PL Leadership Council is comprised of Provia customers, who work with the solution provider to discuss issues and trends in the industry and work on product direction. Based on current and projected needs of a 3PL's customer base, the council is to work with Provia on future software releases.

"Having the ability to be closely involved in the evolution of the Provia product suite is very exciting and extremely beneficial to Freeport," added Collins. "We are in a very unique position that enables us as a business to foster the growth of our supply chain execution software in line with the growth of our own business."
